Why did Direct TV cancel MTV, Comedy Central and 24 other Viacom channels? - starcasm.net

Another generation will probably be refreshing that old slogan “I want my MTV!” as DirecTV is placed to cancel the most popular network together with 25 other Viacom channels tonight at night time when the two companies can’t exercise a contract – soon!

UPDATE - By night time DirecTV has suspended all of the Viacom channels! Get more information at the most recent within the dispute, which includes Viacom halting the streaming of full instances of a few of their shows!

After doing a little of research, the 2 sides the bottom line is are: Viacom wants 30% more income (apparently near to a billion dollars) than their previous contract, that was signed seven years back. Previously seven years DirecTV has “doubled its worldwide revenue, tripled its profits and elevated its customer base by greater than 32%.” DirecTV has past taking these types of showdowns right lower towards the wire, plus they more often than not sign an offer in the last second.

Here’s an interesting video place where the stars of Viacom’s systems plead for the support:

Viacom may be the one declaring 26 total channels, but DirecTV highlights they're double-counting HD versions of some systems. The entire listing of systems includes Palladia, Centric, Tr3s, CMT, Logo design, NickToons, VH1 Classic, TeenNick, Nick Junior., Nick@Nite, Spike, Wager, VH1, TV Land, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and MTV.

Here’s Viacom’s argument (using their blog). I'll follow that track of some “facts” from DirecTV’s site established to address the discussions. (They have more details split up into a myriad of sections like “Why this occurs,” FAQ, “Other methods to watch” as well as an unembeddable video from DirecTV Boss Mike Whitened)
